Outreach program to the Home for the Golden Gays
« on: October 20, 2011, 03:02:18 AM »
Friends from Akei asked me if PG4M could organize an outreach program to Home for the Golden Gays this November as a way of celebrating Pride month.

I was thinking of contacting the administrator of the Home first to ask them when would be a good time to visit (we're targetting November 19), what activities will the residents enjoy, and what kind of assistance do they need the most.

But this early, I'd like to invite everyone who to join us in this outreach program. It should be a welcome change to the usual site meet-up activities that we did in the past.

On a side note, confused about the end-of-year Pride stuff. Is this Pride Season starting November then ending with the March in December or is it the whole of December?

Just checking.

dear, the email trail is confusing me... andami na palang napagusapan and all... now lang ako nagbasa ulit e, ahaha!

heniway, it's so difficult kasi to discuss online but I like the ideas presented. We still need to come up with what fundraiser activity to do tho'...

You can donate straight to the Home for the Golden Gays Foundation. At this point, I don't know how exactly you can do that yet, but we can coordinate with the Foundation's secretary for details.

Or if you want to stick to helping out on the PG4M activity for the foundation... hmm... wala pang concrete plans as of now, but just stay tuned ;D

The "official" events will begin ng 2nd week of November to first week of December, I think. Pride March is on December 3.

Of course, Pride (like love, human rights, compassion and other stuff) shouldn't be limited only to certain times of the year, di ba? :-)

Sorry naman sa email trail, Juna.

Here are some of the details for the outreach program:

1. We could go there either on November 19 or 26 (both Saturdays), from 1 to 5pm. Let's decide which date is better.

2. The place is rather small so we could only include around 20 members or less. So if you want to join the actual outreach program, please say so early and please make sure pupunta kayo at hindi magbabago ang isip at the last minute kasi sayang naman dun sa mga ibang gusto rin pumunta pero hindi na pwede sa head count.

3. Or we could have 2 batches since both dates are still available.

4. The Home has 50 residents (43 are gay, 7 are lesbians) and 7 staff.

5. We will bring some food. They have no exact preference, only that the food should be packed. I'm thinking we should also avoid food many people have known allergies for (like seafood).

6. If we will give goodie-bags, it may include slippers, colorful shirts, fans, comb, handkerchief, and toiletries. Cash donations is also welcome. For members who wish to help but can't go sa Home, you could help us come up with the items for the goodie-bags. I think we could do several weekend meet-ups weeks before the outreach to collect items for the goodie bags.

7. For the sake of transparency, we will post the names of members who will be donating items or cash dito sa thread and specify what they gave. For donors who wish to remain anonymous, we will still post the cash amount or items given para everybody knows how much were collected.

8. We could come up with a program for the entertainment of the residents. It seems they like Pinoy Henyo-type games. Some residents also could sing, so if some members who could play a guitar would like to share their talents, it should be very welcome.

9. I'll ask pa about their policies of taking photos and videos of the residents. I'm planning to invite some friends who could document the event in photos and videos and post them online. If you have issues being seen with other gay men sa photos publicly shown sa internet, consider yourself forewarned.

I'm still going to talk to the Home administrator before the visit for other matters. I'll mention Lesh's question on where people could send their donations.

I'm okay with either or both dates... maybe we should poll this na lang...

I think it would be too tedious to have 2 batches... pero if we have more than 20 people who would like to participate...

uhm... question on the financing of the giveaways and stuff... are we getting funds then we'll just buy the items or just BYO i.e. pledges?

Alexa could play the piano... if they have a piano :D

I saw some pictures and a video from ManilaGayGuy (I think) when he visited the foundation, so I guess they're not very strict with it... but, yeah... they might have some policies that we need to know...

I think we could accept both cash and pledges. I think we should assign some members to be points of contact for those.

And yes, let's decide on the finally date once we have a list of members who will confeeerm sa pagpunta sa Home.
