The Filipino LGBT experience showcased in Sine Bahaghari

The status of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) peoples remains as one of the last great civil issues of our time. In the Philippines, the LGBT community faces a multitude of issues: hate crime, discrimination, and HIV/AIDS, to name a few.

In celebration of National Arts Month, Akei, together with PinoyG4M and Pelikula Tumblr, launches Sine Bahaghari, a showcase of the Filipino LGBT experience as seen in Philippine alternative cinema. The Sine Bahaghari project aims to promote discussion on how the LGBT community is depicted in Philippine cinema and popular culture as well as introduce Filipino-made contemporary independent films to a wider audience.

Featured are two classic works by renowned director Lino Brocka, National Artist for Film, which explored homosexuality as viewed by Philippine society during the 70s.

Sine Bahaghari opens on February 11 at Chef’s Bistro with two films from celebrated Filipino filmmakers: “Next Attraction” by Raya Martin and “Ang Sayaw ng Dalawang Kaliwang Paa” by Alvin Yapan. Also screening are films from prominent independent filmmakers, such as Adolf Alix Jr, Sigrid Bernardo, Roni Bertubin, and Vincent Sandoval.

Sine Bahaghari will have screenings on February 11, 18, 24 and 25. All screenings are free admission and open to the public.

Sine Bahaghari is included in the National Commission for Culture & the Arts’ (NCCA) Philippine Arts Festival this February 2012.

GUERRERO’S THE FORSAKEN HOUSE CAPS DULAANG UP’S 36TH SEASON

Early 1940s. The Philippines is starting to gain more independence and power. It is opening its doors to new ideas. Its culture and tradition are diversifying. But not in Don Ramon’s household.

While many Filipino families of the time embrace change, Don Ramon obstinately maintains a severe hold on his family, specially his children. He forbids them from going out with friends yet does not welcome the idea of entertaining visitors at home either. He distrusts their peers and dictates what they can and cannot do in life. Though having only his children’s best interests at heart, his unyielding will to wield control over their lives spur a series of events that led him and his entire family spiraling uncontrollably towards an ominous fate. And such fate unfolds in unexpected and heartbreaking proportions.

It was too late when Don Ramon realizes, much in King Lear fashion, that in his search for light, he ended up alone in the dark.

In celebration of National Artist for Theatre Wilfrido Ma. Guerrero’s birth centennial and to cap its 36th Season, Dulaang UP presents one of his most celebrated works, The Forsaken House, under the direction of multi-awarded theater icon Tony Mabesa.

The play stars theater luminaries Irma Adlawan, Tess Dumpit, Leo Rialp, Ces Quesada, Espie Tinio-Garcellano, Menggie Cobarrubias and Joel Lamangan, together with the Dulaang UP ensemble and some of today’s young and versatile breed of theater actors.

The Forsaken House runs from February 15 to March 4, 2011, at the Wilfrido Ma. Guerrero Theater, UP Diliman. For inquiries, please contact Ms. Cherry Bong Edralin at 0917-7500107 or the DUP Office at 926-1349.

minsan, sumagi sa isip ko... paano nga ba kapag dumating na kami sa point na mag aadopt na kami ng baby? and as he grows older, paano ko i-eexplain sa kanya na wala syang mommy pero dalawa ang daddy nya? or currently, hindi ko din alam kung paano ipapaliwanag sa mga pamangkin ko ang relasyon naming dalawa, just in case they would wonder kung bakit lalaki ang ka relasyon ko?

kayo, have you been in the similar scenario? how did u react on that? how did you explain it?

share your thoughts.. some other people there might need some enlightenment regarding this :)

Just to caution everyone...beware of this guy in PR with username lrou24, nagpapakilala as Eduardo Sy Ocampo a.k.a. Ed, an engineer based in New York na nagbabakasyon sa Pinas.

He is a swindler manloloko! Sana yung kaibigan ko na ang huli niyang naswindle.

It happened nitong weekend lang. Kakaibiganin ka thru text at sasabihin na nasa bakasyon daw kuno siya sa Davao del Sur ngayun. Titext ka niya ng itetext hanggang sa makarating ang usapan na namamalengke siya ...
